Mostly useless garbage and trolling today

- it's possible the new effects improvement (prepared for the night battles and  weather effects) will also bring better explosions, nicer waterfalls etc.
- module damage system wasn't changed
- SU-85 with 107mm gun won't return as a premium vehicle, but it "might return in another way" (no details for now)
- all major nations will have a premium arty vehicle, but not all at once
- one AP shell penetrating multiple tanks? "won't be done because it would stress the server"
- in the future (when Havok is implemented), tanks with turret will have the turret fly off during ammorack explosions. As for tanks without turret - "we'll see"

  1. Regarding the possible premium SU-85, did China have a vehicle based on the SU-85?

    2. IIRC the SU-85 was planned to have a 152 mm or a 122 mm gun similar to the SU-100. Existed only in blueprints.

    1. Multi-core support is always welcome. Better graphics will probably just make the performance worse.

    2. True multi-core is a must...i didn't exactly understand what the problem is, software, middleware or whatever that is called, but i think they should do it for 0.9 or 1.0(if we live to see it)

    3. The problem is they have to rewrite everything from scratch to use multicore. You need to split your code into thing that can ce executed independently.

Most of these thing that can easily executed on multiple core are executed on the gpu since its way better at doing massive calculation in parallel.

The core of the game engine is mostly serial code like :

      - Verify a thing
      - wait for inputs
      - exute stuff based on previous states

Of course you can execute these thing on multiple core but if it do not mean it will be faster. If some code executed on core 2 wait for core 1 to finish his job because it need the info, by the time it receive the information you will have loose a lot of cpu cycle. The information will have to go back to core 1 where it will use it for the next code.

With all these cache and memory read/write, you loose plenty of cpu time and it would have be faster to run all the code on core 1.

This is why they use multicore for things like physics, thing outside the core code

    4. they tried multithreading with version 0.3.x of WoWp and I guess it failed since they reverted to single threading

to do multithreading you need a engine built ground up from the beginning, not "patched" mid-way
and BigWorld engine is not capable of such things, maybe the next one

      Delete
    5. BigWorld engine supports multi-threading. They use a middleware, called Umbra software, which does automatic occlusion culling (very important in 3D, especially with large game worlds). They said multi-threading can not be implemented because of it, but Umbra supports mult-threading too...
      So,
a)they are either lazy and don't know how/want to implement it, or
b)since most of calculations are done server side, it would no be cost effective to implement multi-threading for minimal gains.
It is probably going to remain status quo situation, until they implement Havok phyisics and use second core for those calculations.

  3. How do you guys think: where wil leFH in 0.8.6?
    -it can go up, as its gun seems statistically on par with AMX 105, which is said to g uprawds;
    -it can go down, as the priest is going down and their guns are even more alike;
    -and it can remain IV;
    Any ideas?

    1. I do not think you can. When you sell a tank, you only get back 50% of the price, so even with the event, you'll be losing 50-30=20% of the price. With 50% events, you get back what you paid.

What would work is buying an arty before 8.6 that will move up TWO tiers. You'll double your money.

      Delete
    2. You buy at 70% cost, sell at 50% -> 20% loss. The discount would need to be over 50%, which is never gonna happen. -Platypusbill

  9. "won't be done because it would stress the server"

    That is getting SO old.

War Thunder has Ships, vehicles and planes all firing simultaneously on maps 10 times WoT's size and there are no issues whatsoever. What kind of crap servers are you running with your multi-million Euro profits that you can't upgrade them to even compete with that?

i heard that WT is client side game so u can expect nice hacks while they bring tanks like t-34 penetrating turret of tiger 2 from the end of map

      Delete
    3. Don't be a retard. Think for a bit.
Wot performs all calculations on server side. WT does them on client side. Besides, the difference in number of players is staggering.

      Delete
    4. WT is basically a heavy-modded single-player Birds of Prey flightsim arcade game. You can disconnect from internet and still play it fine.
They are using some kind of Starforce-derived shit to protect against exploits, but after it gets released the amount of hacks and cheats gonna be staggering.

    5. Going back to the servers WOT operate;
How do they compare to what's in the market?
I've heard several times before they are at their max load capacity so are they really that old & limited?
I have limited knowledge of these matters but are WG investing in the future of the game or just taking their dividends & running?
Can anyone shed any light as to this server problem/ matter?

    6. This is off-topic

Secrecy regarding team killing issues/ reporting & account banning.
WG keeping the workings of it away from the public eye to stop it being abused is all good & fair no problems with that.
Does anyone else consider if a player- Lets say a big money spender not just monthly premium account but likes to buy all the gold tanks & convert lots of experience into free experience to research the latest tier X straight away on patch release- is guilty of regularly breaching the rules, players report him ( Indeed one player said to me team killing is automatic in you don't even have to click the complaint button.. Unsure how true that is..) it makes us feel slightly better in the hope he will be dealt with, however, we don't actually know if anything happens at all.
This is the real world & the idea of a company who wish to make money/ pay their own salaries willingly stopping the flow of income seems unlikely let alone a Belarus company doing it. I'm sure their marketing people will like to impress us that they do as it improves the game overall which is their first priority, I just don't believe they do. Money matters & I personally believe the basis of whether you get a ban or not is entirely dependent on how much money you spend.
      Simple as that.

    7. 1 further point while I'm at it- I had a Turkish player team kill me a couple of weeks back, I was in a WZ-132 & he said sorry to me at spawn then blew me up saying in limited English he would get 500 gold for killing me! That he needed to kill this tank, at first I thought it was just a medal he needed but that doesn't explain hoe he would get gold doing it.
Anyone have any idea how players get gold for killing specific tanks? Anyone else had this problem?
The arsehole certainly ruined my game.

    9. TitanLegion,

I don't think players who pay get special treatment. I have invested a lot in game (about 200 EUR) and I do own several premium vehicles + convert FreeXP. Of course, I don't teamkill on purpose, but I once happened to kill a teammate (who rammed my original target and thus got the shell that was supposed to hit the enemy) and turned blue as everyone else.

Regarding ban/report functionality: as far as I know, it's automatic, but reporting influences the decision by increasing the probability.

    1. Not that I understand your beef with spotting but arty will be changed with 0.8.6 (next patch...as in current focus) and matchmaking is imo not as bad as it used to be. Had you said lack of multicore support, client protection issues, lack of connection with EU-players and f*cked up approch to EU-supertesters I would have understood you.

    2. My primary issue with WG is the speedtree file. Nothing matters if you get withing 15 meters of a bush only to have your fps... halved from 40. Sniping with at least 1 tree trunk in sight? I'm sorry sir, but 11fps is what you'll have to do with.

    3. @Turbo10k:
What kind of a piece of shit PC do you have?
Mine is ANCIENT, E5200 @ 2.5ghz, 4 gigs of DDR2 (used to run with 2 gigs until last week), HD 4850 GPU, and a HDD that has 5400RPM. NEVER do i have less than 30 fps, mostly it's on 40-60, with high draw distance, high textures and couple of other setting on medium/low.

so what kind of a PC does one need to have to get 15 FPS?
I bought this PC for 150 euros, nowadays you can get a much better PC for 150 euros, if you can't afford it, suck it up, earn some cash and play in 30+ FPS.

    4. @anon "Not that I understand your bee"

Tanks on open field should be drawn at full range of visibility (well, just like in WT - planes are visible from far but icons appeares only someone got in specified range).

      Delete
    5. I too have an ANCIENT laptop, with a comparable C2D and 3GB RAM.
The difference here is the graphics card.
Mine is an overclocked Nvidia 8400GS. I have pushed it to the same core speed as your GPU, but mine has half the memory, half the memory speed, and is two generations older, and is also voltage-locked.
Your GPU costs 60 euros, or half the price of your computer. Mine is available for 25 euros price.

Finally, I did not say I got 15 fps. I get 40 fps. When I start sniping from behind a bush with trees in sight though, it gets divided 3/4 times.

And before you mention it, I have already reduced the game to its barest bones.

      Delete
    6. @Turbo10k

Have you tried maximizing Terrain, Draw Distance and Object details?

It takes much more resources to draw low quality image in WoT than best quality.

Also try MFP (MaxFarPlane) mod which you can find with small googling. This mod increased my fps and reduced lag in sniper-view to almost non-existant.

Removing scope-shadow also helps your sniper view FPS since all those black edges are just poorly optimized .jpg-file downloaded everytime you use sniper-view.

And you should atleast try setting lighting quality to high with trees to minimum, having low quality trees without high lighting settings reduces fps.

Well, what can i say mate?
We both now that the technology in our PCs is outdated, it's around 5 years old, if i'm not mistaken. We really can't expect the game to work flawlessly on it.
Yeah, the game engine is pretty shit, but, on the other hand, our PCs are shit ;)

Haha, that would be fun! British and German tanks with accurate guns would finally own Soviet and American heavies on any map except maybe Himmelsdorf.

Playing IS/T-29 would be a pain - being hit from tanks from the other side of map without being able to hit them yourself :)

  14. My guess is that the 107mm Zis gun will return on the SU-100. Slightly larger superstructure than the SU-85, but essentially the same tank, and its reasonable to assume that the gun can fit inside there.
So essentially the SU-107 will be back.
